The Bullrider Koozie Vest

Promote your rodeo and protect your beverage! That’s what the Bullrider Koozie Vest will do for you. The Bullrider Koozie Vest is the invention of Adam Carrillo, a retired professional bull rider. Just as a bull rider must protect himself in the arena, Adam decided he should offer the same protection for beverages.

After a long and impressive career as a bull rider, Adam decided to start a new venture one day while fishing and enjoying a cold beverage with a buddy. As he was reaching for his jerking fishing pole in the water, he knocked over his beverage and broke his bottle. His friend told him he needed a protective vest for his drink and the Bullrider Koozie Vest was born.

With warmer weather on the horizon, many people will soon be enjoying cold drinks. Keep your drink cool and protected with your own Bullrider Koozie Vest. Or if you’re looking for a unique promotional item for an upcoming cattle show, trade show or other event, order your koozie customized with your company’s logo.

Visit the Bullrider Koozie Vest web site today and check out the one-of-a-kind beverage protector!

Crystal Young: Be Very Jealous

This past week I had the opportunity to take a "vacation" and go with the V8 Ranch Brahmans down to the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show in Mercedes, Texas. For those of you who aren't familiar with Texas geography, this is a little town approximately 6 miles from Mexico.

But...even if you haven't heard of the town of Mercedes, I would bet that most of our readers know something about this little Texas town, also known as the home of Rios of Mercedes and Anderson Bean boots!

Being the self proclaimed boot snob that I am, I was ecstatic to get myself within the vicinity of the Mercedes boot store. As soon as I could tear myself away from the stock show, I headed over to the boot store. Now there is a rumor going around other boot snob circles that you can go to this factory store and get boots for next to nothing. Or, that you can drop off your worn out boots there and get them re-soled and re-conditioned. And I am  happy to report, yes, these rumor is true. There were boots priced there from $100 on up.

Though I perused the store for about 30 minutes, unfortunately I did not find anything that I felt I necessarily HAD to have. But, one of my friends picked up 7 pairs of boots at the show, and another friend of mine got 2 pair.

Nonetheless, I'm still happy to say that yes, I have personally visited the Rios of Mercedes and Anderson Bean Boot headquarters. So go ahead Crystal, be jealous. :)

Strait Ranches

Yancey Strait, owner of Strait Ranches, was a classmate of Rachel’s at Texas A&M. He sat by her in Math 141 and made an A, while Rachel made a D. He soon became her tutor and helped her out in all those math and economics classes she was forced to take. Fortunately Yancey knew Ranch House Designs had an industry-wide reputation for designing outstanding web sites, so when he was ready, he booked his web site with RHD.

The Santa Gertrudis cow has been the backbone of Strait Ranches for almost 60 years. They continue to raise Santa Gertrudis and Santa Gertrudis influenced cattle because the cattle can withstand the ups and downs of South Texas pasture conditions. Strait Ranches relies on the breed’s ability to reproduce in less than favorable conditions and produce calves that grow out fast; they strive to raise bulls that can produce superb replacement females and top gaining steer calves.

In an effort to continuously improve their operation and sale offerings, 75% of their mature cows are artificially inseminated each year. The goal at Strait Ranches is to raise functional, fertile and efficient cattle.

Cattle are available for sale all times at the ranch, located in Carrizo Springs. Please contact Yancey to check current availability.

Burke Holvey Livestock

One of our newest web sites Burke Holvey Livestock is somewhat unique in that the ranching entities are completely run by three generations of women. Burke Holvey Livestock is a branch of Titan Farms and since 1972, Titan Farms has been breeding registered Simmental and Angus cattle. Burke, her aunt and her grandmother run the day-to-day operations of the business.

Burke Holvey Livestock is committed to breeding cattle that will work for the commercial producer and the purebred breeder. Their cattle are selected for disposition, fertility, and fleshing ability, as well as performance in both the feedlot and the show ring.

Located in Sand Fork, West Virginia, Burke is always happy to talk "cows". Call or stop by for more information on quality Simmental or Angus cattle.

To keep up with things on the West Virginia ranch, follow Burke’s blog at wvcattlewoman.blogspot.com.

Meeting Ben Spitzer - Salacoa Valley Farms

Last week while we were attending the Houston Livestock Show, I had the chance to put a name with a face for one of our new clients, Salacoa Valley Farms of Georgia. Ben Spitzer, who is the General Manager of SVF, was also attending the Houston Livestock Show for the Brangus events.

Ben is an outstanding young leader in the beef industry, and was recently elected as the Chairman of the NCBA's Young Producers Council. I had a great time visiting at the show hearing more about what is going on at Salacoa Valley and finally meeting Ben face to face!
