What a weekend!

If I had to pick maybe my best weekend of the year, then this past weekend was probably it. We started off on Thursday with our official "Aggie 100 Weekend" with me and Catherine driving up to College Station that morning. We were going to pick up John at the airport and then do a guest lecture for Dr. Jeff Savell's Livestock Marketing class that afternoon.

Thursday also just so happened to be the show day at Kansas City for the Shorthorns. So en route to Aggieland, Dad called to report that our Shorthorns were doing really good in the show. The funny part is that he first reported that our cousin Erin won Division Champion in the junior show. I called her mom Stacey to tell her congratulations, and that is when Stacey informed me that Erin was the only heifer in that division. Leave it to Dad to conveniently omit that part. But later in the day, Erin did win her class in the open show and was Reserve Division and there was actually very tough competition!

Thursday’s highlight (which definitely was not my "boring lecture" as Catherine put it) was Charlee Jo Teague winning Grand Champion Shorthorn (Open and Junior) with Miss V8 Hip Hop. Charlee is one of the coolest people I know, and we all love Hip Hop so we were ecstatic. Catherine later reported that my lecture was only boring because she's heard it 10 times before, so that did boost my shattered self esteem somewhat.

Friday was the big day of the Aggie 100 Luncheon. For once in our lives we were actually ready ON TIME. (See piddling blog below). When the luncheon began, we knew we were in the Top 100 but we had no idea of our actual placing. To be quite honest, we had fully prepared ourselves that we might be the #100 company on the list -- which is still a huge honor. So as they started with #100 and started annoucing them, the suspense grew because our name still hadn't been called yet. As they announced the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s...we started getting really excited. It turns out we were #47 on this list, and we were also the highest rated communications agency on the list.

Of course everyone knows that we are probably the biggest Aggie fans out there, and Dad actually got choked up when our TAMU President, Dr. Elsa Murano, closed the luncheon with a "Beat the Hell Outta Colorado." He thought that was sooooo cool for her to say that....she's got so much school spirit. However, I'd like to point out that I'm 29, and if I were to have said a curse word, I get a stern...."Ladies don't say things like that" lecture. But hey, I guess if you're the president of A&M, you are allowed to say whatever you want.

As we were walking past the Reveille (our school mascot) graves just outside Kyle Field after the luncheon, we heard Dad saying to himself "This is the greatest school ever." And yeah, I have to agree.

We all went to the football game on Saturday and what-do-you-know...the Aggies actually WON. YEAH, we won a game. So we're on a real streak here.

Then, first thing Sunday morning, I got a text from Luke who reported that Rick Frye raised the Champion Steer at Kansas City. Rick is one of my best friends and longest-running customers at RHD. I'm pretty sure I was chatting on the phone with Rick back in the summer of 2006 when he was actually AI'ing this steer's mother…considering we had daily chats all summer about what to breed the cows to and my standard response was "Heat Wave." Hey, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to suggest that bull!

A few hours later, Luke texted again to report that the Aggies had won the livestock judging contest! WHOOP!! Luke also told us that at the banquet they honored the 10-year team and our RHD client Melisa Bertz of Meadow Lane Shorthorns was on that team. He was totally impressed.

So, wow, I couldn't ask for a better weekend than this. And I didn’t even begin to elaborate on all the other things I got to do in the ‘big city” of College Station…. eat a Whataburger breakfast taco, eat an Amaretto Chocolate Mousse Bomb desert from Cafe Excel, go shopping at a Target, and snack on an Aggie Hot Dog at Kyle Field. And, with fall back ....I got a whole EXTRA HOUR OF SLEEP this weekend too.

It was a weekend in Heaven, oops, I mean a weekend in Aggieland. Oh wait, isn't that the same thing?
